Adding channels
It’s best to start from the first menu item – “Add a podcast”.
Next, the application will prompt you to choose how to do it:
- “Search for podcasts” – search for podcasts and radio stations by name or keyword.
- «View Charts» is the most convenient way. You see the catalog of podcasts, and the channels are sorted by categories “Business”, “Music”, “Education”, “Family and children”, “Technologies”.
- “Add a podcast by URL” – select this option if you have a link to the stream.
- “Add a podcast from YouTube” – subscribe to YouTube channel.
- “Add virtual podcast” – the application creates a virtual channel from the specified directory. With this function it is convenient to listen to audio books loaded on the device.
- “Import OPML” – adding channels from the OPML file.
Each of these items is duplicated in the main menu. To see everything that you have subscribed to, you can at the “Subscriptions” point.
Listening
Podcasts can be listened to online or downloaded to the device manually or automatically as new releases are published. For the most important and favorite there is a “Favorites” filter. Do you want to listen to several releases from different channels? Create a playlist.
There are a lot of functions and settings in the application. You can change almost everything: the speed of playback and rewind, the storage limit, reaching which the application will automatically remove the old issues. If you have more than one Android device, you can enable synchronization between them.
There is even backup and recovery with a function to select the number of backups to save. For drivers there is a “Car mode”, in which you can control gestures by gestures.
Summary
With Podcast Republic, you can do everything that comes to your podcasts and YouTube-subscriptions, but there are also disadvantages.
Developers are so carried away by thinking of user scripts that the impression of redundancy is created. Overloading from options and settings is exacerbated by the application’s interface. In our time of material design and minimalism, it looks ancient, uncomfortable and sloppy. Also, all menu items are not fully translated. But the application is completely free.
