In short, 2Gis is a cartographic application, the emphasis in which is placed on various firms and organizations. Until recently, this service was the most common among employees of various organizations, but is now gaining increasing popularity for home use. At the moment in 2Gis available maps of 140 cities of Russia and Ukraine and more than a million different companies and organizations. In practice, 2Gis is the most convenient way to obtain information about an organization.
The version for iPhone, as it seemed to me on the main tab, is primarily focused on private, not corporate use. The application turned out very nice and convenient.
When you first start, you will be prompted to select and install maps of cities of interest to you. The fact that all maps are offline, should be first of all pleasant to the owners of iPod Touch.
On the first tab, which you see after installing the maps, there are the main categories, as well as the search string. The second tab contains a more detailed catalog of companies. It is very convenient that when searching you can sort the companies both alphabetically and remotely from your current location. In addition, there is the opportunity to choose the time of work, methods of payment for services, as well as some other criteria.
At the chosen organization it is possible to look through contacts, time of work, a way of payment of services. In addition, you can quickly send basic information about the organization by SMS and see ways to get to this organization, as well as to leave this place. It seemed amusing to me that if the distance to the object is small, the application will remind you of the benefits of walking and tell you how much you can get without using transportation services. I did not like that the application offers to reach the destination only on public transport – there is no convenient route for driving by car.
The map in 2Gis is very convenient and detailed. With a strong approach, it shows objects in 3D. In general, the impression is pleasant, but there’s nothing to talk about here.
Finally, the last tab will contain the selected places, information about which you would like to have always at hand, without resorting to a search.
Version 2Gis for iPhone left a very pleasant impression. Of course, for many routes only public transport will be a disadvantage, but still do not forget that this is primarily a directory of enterprises, and not a navigation application. I could also point out that after more detailed acquaintance with the application in the process of writing the review, it seemed to me not very convenient navigation inside the application, for example, when selecting the category “Eat”, the corresponding marks appeared on the map, but how to turn them off, I still could not find. Perhaps I did not try it well enough, but I’ll still write down such non-obviousness in the shortcomings of the application. It is to be hoped that soon there will be a version of 2Gis for iPad.
