10 films worth seeing: the Lifehacker editorial advises

Fight club

Recently I read an interesting idea: “Fight Club” could become an imperishable manifesto of generation X, but on September 11, 2001, made a too gloomy prophecy from the manifesto. In any case, this film is worth a look not only for the sake of accurately described problems and diseases of the modern consumer society (let it be a cliche, but it is difficult to find other words), as well as excellent dialogues instantly disassembled into aphorisms.

My name is Khan

Maria Verhtseva
And about. editor-in-chief of Lifehunter

Yes, an Indian film. Yes, good, good, bringing light and warmth. There are no blackouts, murders, manipulations, which are teeming with modern films and serials. There is the present, the human, the eternal. The cinema is long, but full.

The essence of the film is well conveyed by the words of the main character’s mother: “In this world there are only two kinds of people. Good are those who do good deeds. And bad, with bad deeds. And this is the only difference between people. There is no other difference.

Save Mr. Banks

Anastasia Sukmanova
Author Lifhaker

I recommend watching the movie “Save Mr. Banks” when the only thing you want is to just give up and give it up. This is a story about how the well-known cartoonist Walt Disney as much as twenty years tried to persuade the very stubborn writer Pamela Travers to agree to the screen version of her book about Mary Poppins.

Just think: he went to his goal for twenty long years. If even such an example does not help you to believe in yourself, then it’s unlikely that anything will help at all.

Fisher King

“Fisher King” is a tragicomedy by Terry Gilliam in the genre of magical realism. The piercing story of a popular radio broadcaster is a sarcastic cynic whose life has been derailed by one imprudent phrase and the urban madman who is looking for the holy grail in the streets of New York.

A wonderful film about the losses, the power of imagination and how, in times of despair, real human intimacy and warmth are saved.

Mulholland Drive

Anastasia Sereda
Author Lifhaker

I advise you to look at the psychological thriller “Mulholland Drive”. I think that David Lynch is one of the best directors in the world, which means that his work must be studied without fail.

“Mulholland Drive” is a film that you want to unravel. I can not call it difficult, but it will definitely make you think a little. And this tape is incredibly beautiful, and it sounds great music. The actors’ play, the operator’s work, the general atmosphere and the intensity of the passions – everything in this film seems ideal. Perhaps that’s why Mulholland Drive was named the best film of the 21st century.

Out of the car

Maxim Volotsky
Author Lifhaker

“Out of the car” – an intellectual sci-fi thriller, the breakthrough debut of director Alex Garland. This film proved that it is possible to create a spectacular and fascinating work of cinema without crazy financial expenses.

“Out of the car” does not impress with famous names of actors or a variety of shooting locations. But already at the first minute, he intrigues and does not let go until the very end. In addition, the film gives a serious reason for reflection, plunging the viewer into a deep and, as never before, actual problems of machine intelligence.

Babylon

Nastya Raduzhnaya
Author Lifhaker

I was fond of the work of Alejandro González Iñárritu before it became mainstream. Therefore, since I need to single out one film, I will focus on “Babylon”. It has everything to be considered ideal: an exciting story, a wonderful director’s and cameraman’s work, great music and an actor’s game, which you believe.

The film intertwined three seemingly parallel to each other’s plot. Heroes are in different parts of the world: Japan, Morocco, Mexico. But all this in the general philosophical outline. The film leaves a long aftertaste. After watching for a week, wonder what a gulf can be between close people, why we do not understand each other and do not accept what is, and what role in our life is played by the case.

The film was shot ten years ago, but, in my opinion, is very relevant today. Just do not look at it through the political prism. There’s not that. We live in a huge Babylon, but we are separated not by a language barrier, but by pride, cynicism and cruelty.

Mr. Nobody

Angelina Morozova
Author Lifhaker

I spent a very long time deciding to watch this movie. I was frightened by its length (yes, it takes almost three hours) and confusion, so I said many times to “Mr. Nobody”: “Not today.” As it turned out, I postponed the viewing in vain. The film captures from the first minutes and does not let go until the final credits.

There is everything in it: science fiction, drama, a powerful psychological component, and a love line (actually not one), and a beautiful visual series, and, undoubtedly, an idea. I know many people who watched this film, and each of them treats its meaning in its own way. It was amazing for me to know each version. I perceive “Mr. Nobody” as a film about the choice. On the one hand, he says that it is impossible to make the right choice. On the other hand, any choice is correct.

I advise you to look at this picture and try once again to unravel its idea. Perhaps it will help you make some important decision. Helped me.

The thief books

Maria Lyubimova
The Lifehacker Editor

I would recommend that everyone see Brian Percival’s film The Book Thief, based on Marcus Zusak’s novel. The events of the film unfold in Nazi Germany. We learn about the life and tragic fate of the girl Lizel. Her family suffered from the fascist regime, and the baby finds solace in books that steal. They give her the opportunity to understand the surrounding world, educate her and help cope with the brutal reality.

This film is about everything: about war, friendship, love, family, injustice and, of course, books. It is worthwhile to look at all to understand how to remain a human despite of everything.

Rocky

Artem Kozoriz
Author Lifhaker

Old, but not losing its relevance movie, which can be reviewed endlessly. No special effects and computer graphics – everything is based solely on the plot, the brilliant game of actors and amazing music. “Rocky” unrealistically motivates and proves that anyone can succeed. The main thing is to believe and, without receding, to go to your goal.

After watching, my five-year-old son had a new hero who pushed in his personal rating of Luke Skywalker and Aragorn. And he asked me to buy a boxing bag.
