Typically, error 9006 is accompanied by a message that there was a problem with downloading the update for the iPhone or iPad. Sometimes the download just ends with the message err = 9006.
Error 9006 occurs because of an unsuccessful attempt to connect to Apple’s update servers, which in turn is caused by a broken download.
Most often, an antivirus or firewall is to blame for all this, but sometimes the problem can be connected with an Internet connection, a specific computer, iTunes or OS version. To fix the error 9006, you need to do the following:
- Check the network connection and make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
- Completely complete iTunes.
- Check and install iTunes updates and any macOS or Windows updates, if available.
- To restart a computer.
- For a while, disable any antivirus software and firewalls.
- Try to connect the iOS device to another USB port.
As a rule, disabling third-party firewalls and antivirus software during the update helps to avoid errors. For more complex cases, there is an alternative.
It is necessary to delete the damaged IPSW-file, and then manually download it on the Internet and replace it. You can also try not to update, but restore the iOS device by holding down the Option key on the Mac and Shift on Windows, and then select the downloaded IPSW file.
Search for the same firmware files is in the following folders:
- macOS –
~ / Library / iTunes / iPhone Software Updates
- Windows XP –
\ Documents and Settings \ username \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ iTunes \ iPhone Software Updates
- Windows Vista and Windows 7 –
\ Users \ username \ AppData \ Roaming \ Apple Computer \ iTunes \ iPhone Software Updates
- Windows 8 and Windows 10 –
\ Users \ USERNAME \ AppData \ Roaming \ Apple Computer \ iTunes \
If this did not help, then most likely the problem is either in the Internet connection itself, which may have limitations that prevent you from contacting Apple’s servers or on the computer because of the changed settings in the hosts file that block access to the update servers. In this case, you should try to update by connecting to another network, or use another computer.
