All the programs in the collection are free. With the functionality of Photoshop, they, of course, will not equal, but with simple tasks will cope. At a minimum, you can simply open the PSD file as an image, and some of these programs open even the layers.
1. GIMP
- Operating system: Windows, Mac and Linux.
- Russian language: supported.
This is one of the most interesting free analogs of Photoshop. GIMP reads PSD files without installing additional plug-ins, so you can open the file in the same way as regular images: File → Open.
GIMP opens layers of the PSD document for editing. But here there are their pitfalls: the program reads not all layers, some are required to rasterize. And GIMP can incorrectly save changes to the PSD. After that, the file may not open in Photoshop. The latter should not bother you if you opened the file for minor changes and save the picture in JPEG.

2. Paint.NET
- Operating system: starting with Windows 7.
- Russian language: supported.
Paint.NET is better than the standard Microsoft Paint, but it’s the same as clear and easy to use. If you do not know what to do with the file in GIMP, open Paint.NET.
The program reads the PSD, but only after installing the appropriate plug-in. For this:
- Download the plugin.
- Extract the files from the downloaded archive.
- Copy the PhotoShop.dll file.
- Navigate to the Paint.NET installation folder (for example, C: \ Program Files \ paint.net).
- Insert the PhotoShop.dll file in the FileTypes folder.
- Start Paint.NET.
Paint.NET can read layers in PSD documents, but does not duplicate all Photoshop functions, therefore image processing is somewhat limited.

3. Photopea
- Operating system: any, since the application opens in the browser.
- Russian language: supported.
Photopea is an online service whose interface resembles Photoshop or GIMP. Its advantage is that you do not need to install anything. The program will open in the browser on any device. But online applications are often not as practical as the installed programs. Photopea is no exception, but it allows you to work with layers in a PSD document.

4. XnView
- Operating system: Windows (for Linux and macOS there is a version of XnView MP).
- Russian language: It is supported only in Standart and Extended-versions.
XnView – a kind of graphical organizer, in which you can open and organize collections of images on your PC. In XnView there are primitive editing functions: you can change the color palette, add a filter or effect.
The program is unpopular, and in vain: it is able to open images in more than 500 formats and re-store them in another 70. So install it as a primitive editor for PSD or converter.
In the basic version only English, French and German are supported.

5. IrfanView
- Operating system: Windows.
- Russian language: supported.
The program IrfanView, like XnView, is designed for viewing and converting graphic files. But IrfanView supports fewer formats. The program opens the PSD as a picture. You can not edit layers, but a normal image is possible. To get more processing, the PSD file must first be converted to a different format.
IrfanView works fast and weighs little (installation files take up just over 3 MB).
