How to reinstall OS X using Internet Recovery

As much as we did not praise the Mac for its simplicity and speed, sometimes we still have to reinstall the OS from scratch. This can be due to a variety of reasons, for example, slow work or problems with the software. Below we will talk about how to reinstall OS X using the Internet Recovery feature.

As you may have guessed, for this we only need Mac and Internet. The need for the Internet is obvious and without access to it, the Mac will not be able to download the firmware file.

Internet Recovery restores the Mac not to the latest firmware version, but to the one that came with it in the kit.
Before reinstalling, make sure that you make a backup copy.

So, here’s the list of actions:

  1. Turn on or restart the Mac and immediately hold down the Command + Option + R keys. If you saw the Apple logo, then you’ve waited too long and you’ll need to do it all over again.
  2. If the computer has a saved WiFi network, it will ask permission to join. If not, no problem – we will do it later.
  3. You will see a globe icon that indicates the download of the Internet Recovery function.

  4. After the download is completed, the usual field appears, on which you need to select “Install OS X” or “Install OS X” if the system displays the field in English.

  5. Select the desired drive and follow the installation steps.

Installation can take a lot of time, since the firmware file weighs several gigabytes and it will be downloaded from Apple servers. It is worth repeating once again that it will install the version of the firmware with which the Mac was installed.

For example, if you had OS X Mavericks on your computer while the latest version was OS X Yosemite, Mavericks would be installed.
