Why fly light was even steeper
First, you save on air tickets. Previously, the possibility of carrying baggage was necessarily included in the ticket price. Under the new law, air carriers can offer fares without baggage, which means cheaper flights.
Secondly, do not hang around in the baggage claim area, you can immediately go about your business. By the way, pay extra for taxi drivers for luggage, too, will not have to.
Thirdly, things will not fly by mistake to another country, and the bag will not be “checked” by unclean airport employees.
Try not to carry things with you “just in case.” After all, most of them will not be useful for you on a journey.
Free of charge: 5 kg + backpack
In any Russian airline you can take on board up to 5 kg of things for freeOrder of the Ministry of Transport of Russia of 05.10.2017 № 409. . There are carriers who are allowed to take up to 15 kg.
Previously, passengers could take with them over and above only a ladies’ bag or briefcase with things, and now this list also included a backpack. If its dimensions and weight correspond to the rules of the carrier, you can take a lot of things with you for free.
Before traveling, be sure to weigh your bag and check its dimensions with a centimeter tape.
What should be the size of hand luggage
The average size of hand luggage is 55 × 40 × 20 cm or 115 cm in the sum of three measurements.
In order not to pay extra for hand luggage, choose soft bags or a backpack with straps-tighteners, which reduce the size of the already packed bag.
Now on sale there are even special bags and backpacks for hand luggage. They are very light and fit the dimensions of the frame at the airport.
If your carry-on baggage looks bulky, at the airport it must be weighed and checked the dimensions in a special frame. This is such a plastic container or two walls, in which your suitcase should fit. At the same time, everything should be included, including pens and wheels.
Some carriers (specify on the airline’s website) allow you to carry as one place hand luggage:
- musical instrument with dimensions in the sum of three dimensions not more than 135 cm (in some cases additional coordination is required);
- A tennis racket or a squash game packed in a pouch;
- set for playing badminton, consisting of two simple rackets and three feather flounces, packed in one pouch.
You can take a guitar in the case and a small backpack with a changeable T-shirt and smartphone. But for additional hand luggage in this case will have to pay.
All that you buy in Duty Free (if it corresponds to the dimensions), you can also take with you to the cabin of the aircraft for free. But keep in mind that the goods must be packed in a sealed plastic bag.

What can I bring in hand luggage
Water and liquids
Water and any liquid products – juice, yogurt, jam, honey, jam, butter, soft cheese – should be packed in plastic bottles up to 100 ml and a bag on the buckle.
A set of plastic bottles with different volumes up to 100 ml can be easily found on AliExpress. They are sold individually or in sets of 10-50 bottles, there are options with a dispenser or without.
You can take only 10 such bottles with you. It does not matter what will be in them: jam, water, cough syrup or shampoo.
Food
In hand luggage you can transport cookies, nuts, dried fruits, apples, bananas, bread, sweets, hard cheese, sausage, sandwiches and muesli bars.
Medications
All medicines must be in the original packaging. If the drugs are sold only on prescription, just in case grab it with you. In addition, it will not be superfluous to check whether your medicines are allowed in the country to which you are flying. If not, find the permitted analogs.
Liquid medicines – ointments, gels, syrups and aerosols – are subject to liquid transport restrictions. If the volume of the medicine package exceeds 100 ml, on the inspection, inform the airport staff and provide a prescription or an extract from the medical history that proves that the medicine is necessary for you.
Gadgets
In the cabin of the aircraft you can take with you any small in size gadgets: smart phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, cameras and portable batteries for charging. The main thing is that the specific power of lithium-ion batteries in them should not exceed 100-160 W / h. If you carry photo and video equipment with capacious batteries, it is better to specify in advance the authorized capacity in the selected airline.
Batteries must be inside the machine. Separately, it is possible to transport up to two lithium-ion batteries of not more than 100 Wh / h each.
What can not be taken in hand luggage
To the airport did not have to get rid of your favorite things, know that in hand luggage is prohibited to carry:
- manicure set (nippers, nail file, tweezers, scissors with blades longer than 6 cm);
- a razor with two-sided blades, a dangerous razor;
- lithium-ion batteries with a specific power of more than 100 W / h;
- mercury thermometer;
- any flammable items, including gas cans for self-defense, liquids for refueling lighters and gasoline lighters, all kinds of fireworks and firecrackers;
